David Manning

David Manning, Jenny's father, was born in Topsham, South Devon in 1914. He went to school locally, but followed his brother, Arthur, to the Draper's School in Purley when he was nine. He worked in wholesale drapery in Bristol after leaving school and was conscripted into the airforce in 1940 after World War Two was declared. He met Jenny's mother, Lorna, in 1940 while stationed in Bedfordshire, marrying her in 1942. After the war he worked until retirement in a large retail drapers in Cambridge. He and Lorna lived in Cambridge for the rest of their lives. Their daughter Jenny was born in 1946.
