Nellie Gilmore (nee Davis)

 

 

Carol’s mother, Nellie, was born in 1923 in Bloxwich, Staffordshire. She left school aged 14 and worked in the family shop until she joined the WAAF where she met James (Jim) Gilmore. They married in 1944, just before Jim left for Europe as part of the liberation forces. She had two children, Pauline and Carol and lived in Ireland and then Wolverhampton. She died in a nursing home in Lancashire in 2009, having outlived her husband by 18 years.
